Right away the address of this lovely Bed & Breakfast will give you a hint at what to expect: "Cow Hill Road". A lovely small farm house converted into a quaint country feel place to stay that may as well be your grandparents house, a little ways from the simpler times of fishermen and cow herders. The room was super cozy with a bed full of blankets, pillows and a gas fireplace that adjusted on the minute with a thermostat right beside it.
Bathroom was a bit chilly with ceramic tile floor, easier to keep clean, but it had it's own space heater.
I would have liked "black out" curtains as the morning light came pouring in hours before I wanted to get up, but then I may have missed the fantastic freshly prepared breakfast that started with fresh berries fruit cup and then a "with everything" omelet. Yum! Other options were walnut pancakes, eggs and bacon. The breakfast was so darn healthy and satisfying, I felt super ready for my day.
Being that my stay was in December various rooms were decorated with vintage style Santa Claus and ceramic villages, the kind that would accompany a toy train set, very lovely and nostalgic for me. I'm 50+ years old and can remember my grandmother collecting these kinds of objects and pulling them out of the attic for each season.
The location can't be beat, just one exit from Mystic aquarium and museum,Exit 89 off I95 North or South, up Mystic St. and then a right on Cow Hill Rd. You could walk to it off the exit if you had to. It's three quick exits going South from Route 2 coming back from Foxwoods if you're from NYC like me.
Anyway, I much rather stay at a place with so much warmth and personality than a large cold corporate hotel. A bargain for the money.
